About Us

Smoothping is a gaming site made for gamers by gamers. Our goal to bring you the lowest World of Warcraft Ping possible using a process known as SSH Tunnelling.

How it Started

Having found a legitimate way to reduce latency in World of Warcraft, we decided we needed to introduce a quality service that every WoW gamer could use. We set up our first server and invited players from our guild to beta test the service. The results spoke for themselves - everyone in our guild got a significantly lower ping, reduced disconnects and generally had a better play experience, even though the bulk of the testers were Americans and already had good Ping times! 3 new servers were added - Netherlands, Boston and Dallas, we went live, demand was huge, and we've been growing ever since.

Who we are

Paul

Paul is the creator of Smoothping and is the "brains" behind the business. He is an old school gamer, having played MMORPGs way back in the Ultima Online (UO) days through to EQ, Horizons, SWG, Eve, EQ2, AoC, etc. Of course, his one true love is World of Warcraft. Paul is Australian and has lived all over the World.

Elisabeth

Elisabeth is the "beauty" behind the business and is actually Paul's one true love (*cough*). She has always been a really good gamer, earning the reputation as the best Cleric (healer) on her EQ server in the days of vanilla EQ! She plays a mean Hunter and often topped the DPS charts in our guild. (Not bad considering the guild we played in was a server first progression raiding guild!). Elisabeth is Swedish and proud of it!

Art

Art is our server God and takes care of all of our technical issues, including adding new servers when the demand is there, troubleshooting issues, etc. Art is a native Russian (from Vladivostok!) and his English skills are quite remarkable.

Bad Connection?

For most overseas players, it's common to see Ping times of 400ms or more. Some players in far away places are even dealing with Ping times of more than 1000ms!. By using the Smoothping service, most people see their latency times lowered by 50-70%. So if you normally play with 600ms, you might see as low as 210-230ms!

PVP Player?

Having the absolute lowest ping possible is critical in PvP. If you have 300ms and you are facing off against someone with 50ms, you are at a HUGE disadvantage. When your opponent does something, it will take around 300ms for you to even see it. When you respond, it takes around 300ms for it to get back to the WoW server. That's more than half a second disadvantage compared to your opponent.

Hardcore Raider?

If you are a serious raider, having the lowest Ping and the most stable connection possible is essential. It's no secret that having a lower ping will increase your DPS. Even going from 200ms down to 85ms will make a difference as your rotations become tighter and more accurate. Heals will fire a fraction quicker! But most importantly, no more disconnects during laggy boss fights.
